Faryab mosque blast kills 2, injures 14
Attached to a motorcycle, the explosive device went off after Juma prayers, the district chief, Muhammad Umar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Who had parked motorbike in the mosque was not immediately known, according to the official, who said the injured were transferred to hospital.
The target of the attack was unknown but the district police commander and other government officials were present in the mosque for Juma prayers, Umar added.
A doctor at the Maimana Civil Hospital confirmed receiving two bodies and 14 injured people. Four of the injured were in critical condition, he added.
Giving a witness account, resident Abdul Karim said the blast occurred when worshippers were coming out of the mosque. "It happened as soon as I came out."
