Militant group joins peace process

FAIZABAD (PANinfo-icon): An 18-member militant group, led by Maulviinfo-icon Abdul Hadi, has joined the peace process in the Daraim district of northern Badakhshan province, the governor said on Saturday.

Shah Waliullah Adeeb told Pajhwok Afghan News an Al Qaeda-linked group was hiding somewhere between Wardaj and Kashim districts.

Efforts were being made to convince more and more insurgents into joining the peace process, he added.

The group also turned in seven weapons and a rocket launcher, according to Adeeb. High Peace Councilinfo-icon chief Burhanuddin Rabbani hoped security in Faizabad would improve with the switching of sides by the insurgents.
