Mosque suicide bombing bid foiled
FAIZABAD (PAN): Residents of the Baharak district of northeastern Badakhshan province captured a 16-year-old would-be suicide bomber with an explosive vest ahead of Juma prayers, officials said on Saturday.
Director of the intelligence department, Ali Ahmad Mubarez, told Pajhwok Afghan News the boy from the Wardaj district was held before he could carry out a suicide attack on the Najm-ul-Madaris Mosque.
Locals turned in the teenager, who acknowledged being trained in terror techniques at the Haqqani Madrasa in Akora Khattak, to police.
The boy was instructed to carry out a suicide attack before Eid at one of the mosques in Badakhshan.
But the the interior ministry in Kabul said the suspected bomber was detained by local police. The detainee is being investigated at the police headquarters.
