2 would-be suicide bombers arrested
TAKHAR: Two would-be suicide attackers were detained in the Namak Ab district of northern Takhar province, officials said on Saturday.
The bombers were detained along with two suicide vests, a pistol, an AK-47 Kalashnikov, a Kalakov, four hand grenades and a corolla car in the past 24 hours, Breg. Gen. Khair Mohammad, provincial police chief, told a press conference Afghan News.
Initial interrogations suggest the detainees intended to launch attacks on the governor’s compound, office of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and journalists in the province, Timor said.The police chief said the bombers were trained in Pakistan.
Elsewhere in the province, a Taliban commander, named Abdul Matin also known as Salem, was arrested in Dashte Qala district, the police chief said.
The latest arrests came a day after two suspected rebels were detained along with a van and 18 jerry cans of explosives in the vicinity of the city.
