Past 24 hours: 11 militants killed, 36 detained
Eleven militants were killed and 16 others were apprehended during separate operations by police backed by Afghan National Army (ANA) and foreign troops in Kabul, southern Helmand, Ghazni and Kandahar provinces, the ministry said in a statement.
Another three militants were detained Saturday when they were planting a roadside bomb in Shah Mansur village near Tirinkot City, the capital of central Uruzgan province, it said.
Meanwhile, police arrested two suspected militants who had the intention to plant a remote-controlled bomb in Chaghtan village of Khwaja Ghar district, the interior ministry said. A Kalashnikov and a remote-controlled device were also recovered from the detainees.
Separately, eight people were detained on charges of having fake passports, robbery, murder, drug trafficking and grabbing government lands in deferent parts of Kabul, the statement said.
Police also seized eight Kalashnikovs, nine walkie-talkies and a jeep during a raid in the ninth police district of Kabul, the statement added. Two anti-tank mines were seized in the Khaki area of Nahr-i-Siraj district of Helmand province and another anti-tank mine was recovered in Zurmat district of Paktia province, the ministry said.
Two suicide vests, two Kalashnikovs, four grenades, and a car were captured and three men were detained on the charge of link to the munitions in northern Takhar province, the statement said.
Four more people were also detained on the charge of robbing money and stealing a car in northern Faryab and Laghman province, the statement concluded.
