KABUL (PAN): A rebel group planning to launch an organised attack on the Ministry of Defence and the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital in Kabul has been arrested, the spy service said on Sunday.
Three suicide vests, hand grenades and three AK-47s were recovered from the group that was busted in the Nyazbik area of the 5th police district, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) spokesman, Lutfullah Mashal, told a press conference on Sunday.
He identified the group members as Raees alias Qari Ajmal, Karimullah and Muhammad Saeed, residents of Maidan Wardak and Paktia provinces. The detainees had confessed to their intention of carrying out terror attacks, Mashal said.
The group was behind the June 11 attack on the 1st police district. Nine people, including four security forces, were killed and 12 others were wounded in the attack.
Meanwhile, some weapons and ammunitions were seized by NDS agents in central Kapisa province and the Shakar Dara district of Kabul, Mashal concluded.
