Aug 28, 2011 - 16:15

TALOQAN (PANinfo-icon): A healthinfo-icon official and his driver were killed when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the northern province of Takhar, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place in Saqab village of Bangi district, Brig. Gen. Khair Mohammad Taimur, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The vehicle belonged to the Kahaf Health Organisation, an Afghan non-governmental organisation providing health facilities in remote areas of the province, he said.  The dead included an area supervisor of the organisation and his driver, he said.

The victims were traveling to the district centre to monitor a clinic when came under attack, the governor’s spokesman, Faiz Mohammad Tawhidi, said.

Police had launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether the bomb had been planted by insurgents, he added.
