KABUL (PAN): The Sitara-e-Azadi futsal (indoor football) team successfully defended its crown and won the Kabul futsal championship for the second time.
Sitara-e-Azadi knocked out the Bakhtar university team in the final game of the tournament, called 'Jam-e-Ramadan,' or Ramadan Cup.
The tournament, which featured 60 futsal teams, began at the start of the holy month of Ramadan at a sports gymnasium in the Haji Nabi residential neighbourhood.
Wali Shah, who arranged the competition, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the tournament ended with the final games played between the Sitara-e-Azadi and Bakhtar University teams last night.
Two-time champion Sitara-e-Azadi scored eight goals to win the championship in the final game. In the qualifier, the Mawj team lost to the Sitaragan team by four goals, to win the third position in the tournament, Shah informed.
Zahir Hassani, a representative of the futsal committee of the football federation, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the winning squad had scored 58 goals against rival teams and had only two goals scored on them in the entire tournament.
In comparison to last year, the futsal squads were much better prepared for the tournament, Hassani concluded.
Sitara-e-Azadi last year won the championship over the Sulh futsal squad.
