The clash erupted on Sunday when Taliban attacked a convoy of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the Shah Pushti area of Washir district, the governor’s spokesman, Daud Ahmadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Twelve insurgents were killed and their commander Mullah Abdul Salam was injured in the retaliatory attack, he said.
Ahmadi accused the group of attacking security forces’ convoys as well as disruption of security in the district.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed to have killed three foreign soldiers in a roadside explosion. He did not provide information about the Taliban’s casualties.
