2,385 rebels join peace process in north: ISAF
KABUL (PAN): The Afghan government-initiated peace process is successfully underway in northern and western Afghanistan, where about 2,385 rebels had joined the process so far, an official said on Monday.
Most of the surrendering rebels belonged to Kunduz, Badghis, Baghlan, Sar-i-Pul, Faryab and Herat provinces, said Maj. Gen. Phil D. Jones, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Reintegration Cell Director.
He told a press conference in Kabul that most of the insurgents were from lower ranks. He said they were optimistic that more and more militants would join the peace parleys.
"It's an Afghan programme which is drafted by Afghans and led by Afghans. We fully support the process ", he said.
