Six militants killed in Ghazni airstrike

Aug 29, 2011 - 14:15

GHAZNI CITY (PANinfo-icon): Six militants were killed in an airstrike by international troops in the  province of Ghazni, officials said on Monday.

The airstrike took place in the Agho Jan village of Gilan district on Sunday evening, killing six fighters, police chief Brig. Gen. Zarawar Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said an investigation was underway to identify the dead militants.

Gilan is located 120 kilometres from Ghazni City and shares a border with Shah Joy district.

Provincial council secretary Abdul Wali Khanzada said that the fighters fired missiles on a base of NATOinfo-icon-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon). Some attackers were killed when the troops returned fire, he said.

On Aug. 19, four civilians were killed in an airstrike by ISAF in Ghondai village of the district.

Separately, ISAF soldiers arrested two people during a raid on a house in Sanjitak village on the outskirts of Ghazni City.

The troops surrounded the area at around 2am and took away a man and his son, resident Abdul Hai said. The detainees were civilians and had not links with any group or party, he said.
