KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed a Talibaninfo-icon insurgent and detained another during a security operation in the Kunduz district of northern Kunduz province, the US army said on Monday.

An air weapons team engaged the individual and killed during a search of the area, the military said in a statement.

Following the engagement, the security force confiscated roadside bomb making materials, multiple AK-47 assault rifles, and a chest rack, it said.

The force then moved to search a nearby compound and discovered more bomb-making materials, including 15 pounds of home-made explosives, blasting caps, and detonation cord.

Separately, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent in Almar district northern Faryab province, the statement said. The force detained the individual after observing him conducting insurgent activities in the area.

In southern Afghanistaninfo-icon, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader in Ghazni district of Ghazni province. The targeted leader participates in kidnappings, hijackings and attacks against Afghan National Security Forces, the statement alleged.
