Karzai releases detained child bombers to families

Karzai releases detained child bombers to families

Aug 30, 2011 - 16:38

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday released eight detained would-be child suicide attackers to their families in deference to Eidul Fitr.

Speaking to reporters after Eid prayers at the Presidential Palace, Karzai said the children were released because they had been misguided by the enemies of the country.

The president urged the rebels not to use children for carrying out suicide attacks, calling the move as un-Islamic and inhumane.

Karzai asked the High Peace Councilinfo-icon chief, Burhanuddin Rabbani, who was present on the occasion, to ensure the safe handover of the children to their families.

Presidential spokesman, Siyamak, told Pajhwok Afghan News that five of the eight youth were released to their families.
