Karzai renews peace call
KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai, after offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, on Tuesday once again urged the rebels to join his government-initiated peace process. He also urged the youth to play their part in the country's rebuilding.
The religious festival, which marks end of the holy month of fasting, was celebrated across the country today with religious fervor. Special prayers were offered at mosques for peace and stability in the country.
President Karzai offered the Eid prayers at the Presidential Palace. Cabinet members, jihadi leaders and dozens of tribal elders were present on the occasion.
After the prayers, Karzai congratulated the countrymen and the Muslim world on Eid celebrations.
He said the country passed through three decades of war and political turmoil. "I on this auspicious day once again call on the opposition forces to stop killing their own brothers, stop destroying the country, instead serve the soil and choose the path of peace," the president urged the Taliban.
Karzai also urged the youth to concentrate their focus on higher studies in order to be able to serve the country.
