5 militants, ANA soldier killed during past 24 hours

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Five insurgents and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier have been killed during separate operations over the past 24 hours in deferent parts of the country, the interior ministry said on Saturday.

Another 24 insurgents were detained during the operations conducted in eastern Nangarhar, central Maidan Wardak, southern Ghazni and Helmand, southeastern Khost and western Herat provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

An ANA soldier was killed and four others injured in a roadside bombing and an insurgent attack during an operation in Awba district of Herat province, the statement said.

Three bombs, explosives, a machinegun, a Kalashnikov, six motorcycles were also seized during the period.

The ministry said Eid-ul-Fiter days passed off peacefully in all provinces, except Kandahar and Bamyan provinces, where two incidents of violence occurred.

During the Eid days, eight militants were killed and four others injured when a bomb in their possession went off prematurely at a bomb making factory of militants in Maiwand district of Kandahar province, the statement said.

Three policemen and a police officer were killed on Thursday when militants fired a rocket shell on a police vehicle in Koh Mard district of central Bamyan province.
