QALAT (PAN): Four people have died of diarrhea, while dozens others have been infected with the disease in the Mizan district of southern Zabul province, an official said on Saturday.
The epidemic, which spread fast during Eid days due to much eating and dirty fruits, claimed the lives of four people in two villages, Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rasulyar told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said another 70 people had fallen sick of the disease. A team of doctors had been airlifted by a helicopter of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to the area to control the situation, he added.
The dead included two children. Their deaths turned Eid happiness to sadness in Anwar and Mullah Ali villages, a resident of the district, Habibullah, said.
He asked the government to make urgent efforts at bringing the situation under control in order to prevent further fatalities.
Three months ago, 14 people died of cholera in Atghar district.
