Traffic accidents leave 2 dead, 182 injured
HERAT CITY (PAN): Three people lost their lives and another 182 sustained injuries during separate traffic accidents over the past four days in northern Faryab and western Herat provinces, an official said on Saturday.
Western zone police spokesman, Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, said two people were killed and 139 others injured due to traffic accidents in Herat. Most of the incidents were a result of carelessness by motorcycle drivers, he said.
About 500 motorcycles were confiscated and some of drivers detained for causing traffic accidents, he said.
An official at the western hospital, Mohammad Raffiq Shirzai, confirmed receiving two dead people and nearly 100 injured in accidents at the hospital.
In Faryab, one person was killed and 60 others were injured in traffic accidents, said Traffic Management Department spokesman, 1st Lieutenant. Muhibullah. A number of people had been fined for causing the accidents, he said.
Driver Timor Shah said traffic officials had not asked him for licence during the past six months.
