2 bomb planters, local police commander killed
MAIDAN SHAHR/GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Two bomb planters were killed and as many arrested in two separate operations in southern Ghazni and central Maidan Wardak provinces, an official said on Sunday.
The two mine planters were killed in an overnight airstrike of NATO-led international soldiers in Haiderkhel area of Sayedabad district when they were spotted planting mines on the Kabul-Kandahar Highway, the spokesman for the Maidan Wardak governor, Shahidullah Shahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In Ghazni, two bomb planters were arrested in Sanjitak area, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Zarawar Zahid, said. Cables and remote-control devices used for exploding the bombs were also recovered from the detainees, he said.
Sanjitak area that falls in the vicinity of fourth police district in Ghazni city is a safe haven for militants who attack police checkpoints and patrols in surrounding areas.
In Lashkargah, the provincial capital of southern Helmand province, two motorcyclists shot dead a local police commander late on Saturday night. Abdul Ali was killed in Zara Qala area, the governor's spokesman, Daud Ahmadi, said.
