Gunmen rob vehicle, some equipment of demining agency
JALALABAD (PAN): Unidentified gunmen robbed a vehicle, 15 mine detectors and some explosives of a demining agency in the Pachir Agam district of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday night, officials said on Monday.
Unknown armed men stormed the compound of Afghan Technical Consultants (ATC), a mine clearance agency, stealing a vehicle and some mine detecting devices, the Pachir Agam district chief, Azizullah Shinwari, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Shinwari said police have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain who were behind the burglary, and recover the stolen items.
Engineer Sher Nabi, the regional officer of ACT in the district, said the burglars had tied up two of the guards and taken away three workers, 15 mine detection devices, eight walkie-talkies, 1.5 kilogram of explosives and some other equipment.
Three of the workers were released some hours later, said Nabi who added: “We don’t know who might have done this, the burglars or the Taliban.”
No one has so far claimed responsibility for the robbery.
This comes as unknown armed men had abducted 16 workers of another demining agency OMAR which also torched one of its vehicles in the Mohmand Dara district of the province last year. The captors later freed the abductees.
