Police rescue 2 kidnapped engineers in Khost
KHOST/QALAT (PAN): Police rescued two engineers from their kidnappers after a brief shootout during an operation in southeastern Khost province, an official said on Monday.
One of the kidnappers was killed during the rescue operation that took place in the Ismailkhel area of Mandozai district on the Khost-Gardez highway on Sunday, Mubarz Zadran, the governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the kidnappers wanted to shift the abducted engineers out of the province in car when police intercepted the vehicle on its way from Gardez to Khost province in Mandozai area, the official said.
After a brief encounter, police were able to recue the engineers, he said.
Elsewhere, security officials arrested a mine planter while planting mines in Shajoyee district of southern Zabul province, Mohammad Jan Rasul Yar, the deputy governor, said.
The man was detained on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in the Qalakhel area during a patrol, he said.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced two individuals have been arrested on the charge cooperating with the Taliban.
