1 guard killed, 9 injured; tankers torched
MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): One guard of a private company was killed and nine others were wounded while five tankers, carrying fuel for NATO-led troops, torched in a Taliban attack in central Maidan Wardak province, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the Salaar area of Syedabad district after the Taliban attacked a logistic convoy of foreign troops late Tuesday, killing a guard of a private security company and wounding nice others, Shahidullah Shahid, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Five fuel tankers were also set ablaze in the onslaught, Shahid added.
Syedabad district chief, Dr. Muslim, confirmed the casualties inflicted on the guards, saying that Taliban attacked a logistic convoy escorted by guards belonging to a private security company named ATM. Three fuel tankers were torched, he said, adding that the Taliban also suffered casualties without giving the exact number, Muslim added.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, asserted responsibility for the attack, saying that six guards were killed and several others wounded. Ten fuel tankers were also torched in the assault, Mujahid concluded.
