Karzai asks Kunar elders to help salvage kidnapped Pakistani youth
KABUL (PAN): President Karzai has asked parliamentarians and elders in eastern Kunar province to play their role in securing the release of kidnapped Pakistani children, a presidential statement said on Wednesday.
Public representatives and elders in Kunar must not hesitate from facilitating the release of the kidnapped youth, if Pakistan's claim about the presence of the kidnapped children in Kunar was true, the statement said.
The insurgents had abducted 40 children who mistakenly crossed into Kunar from Bajaur, one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions of Pakistan, during an outing on the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The kidnappers later released some of children aged below 12 years and held captive 25 others.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Bajaur on Tuesday demanded the release of their jailed comrades in return for the release of 25 children in their captivity.
