Massoud's 10th death anniversary marked
A ceremony, attended by Vice President Mohammad Qasim Fahim, Cabinet members, Acting Chief Justice Abdul Salam Azimi and Wolesi Jirga Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, was held at the Massoud Square in Kabul.
Members of the National Security Council, former jihadi commanders, security officials and diplomats also took part in the event. Several dignitaries placed flowers at the site to pay tribute to Massoud.
Popularly known as the Lion of Panjsher, Massoud was killed by two Arab attackers, posing as journalists, in Takhar province on September 9, 2001, two days before the 9/11 attacks. Taliban and Al Qaeda were blamed for his assassination.
A ceremony marking the anniversary was also held in the Afghan hero's native province of central Panjsher. Jihadi leaders, former National Directorate of Security Director Amrullah Saleh, parliamentarian Yunus Qanuni and the Panjsher governor laid floral wreaths on his grave.
