29 prisoners released from Helmand jail
LASHKARGAH (PAN): Twenty-nine prisoners were released in compliance with President Hamid Karzai's orders from the central jail in southern Helmand province, an official said on Saturday.
Most of the beneficiaries of the presidential decree, issued in deference to Eidul Fitr and Afghanistan's Independence Day, were criminals, Justice Director Haji Tayeb said. Jail terms of 91 inmates were reduced.
The released prisoners promised to help the government and not to commit any crime, the director added.
