6 militants perish in Nuristan clash
JALAL ABAD (PAN): Six insurgents were killed in a clash with police in the Barg-i-Matal district of eastern Nuristan province on Saturday, officials said.
The clash was touched off by a militant attack on a border police post in the district, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Shamsur Rehman Nuristani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Without giving details, he said the fighters had killed the police officials they had kidnapped in the district two days ago.
A Spokesman for the border police force in eastern provinces, Idrees, said bodies of the dead rebels were lying at the scene. Police also recovered arms and ammunitions.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters had killed several police officials in the clash.
