Rockets fired at Samangan prison building
AIBAK (PAN): The main prison in northern Samangan province was hit with three rockets but the attack caused no life or financial loss, officials said on Saturday.
Militants attacked the building late on Friday night, Mohammad Sadiq Azizi, the governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The rockets were fired from the eastern part of the city. Police have launched a search operation, but no one has been detained so far, he said.
Khadija, chief of the women affairs department, said that some of the windowpanes in her office were shattered. The department is located close to the prison building.
Col. Taj Mohammad Nazim, head of the provincial prison, confirmed the assault, saying it had no damage.
Meanwhile, a police officer said on condition of anonymity they had already warned of Taliban's plan to assault the building and police were ready to prevent it.
"The attack sparked a clash between police and Taliban," he said, adding police suffered no casualties.
