Hakimi renews vow to combat terror
KABUL (PAN): Having suffered destruction at the hands of Al Qaeda and other violent extremists, Afghans understand the pain caused to many Americans by the 9/11 attacks, the Afghan ambassador to the US said on Sunday.
"Afghans and Americans know the terrible costs of violence and this mutual understanding unites our countries in the common cause to end hatred and promote peace," Eklil Hakimi said on the 10th anniversary of the devastating attacks on the US.
"But we have moved away from the dark past. Over the last 10 years, our country has achieved momentous accomplishments. Afghanistan is now a proud democracy and the lives of our people have improved," he added.
Ten years later, the battle against terrorism continued, the envoy said, adding the Afghans wished to go back to a secure life and stood shoulder to shoulder with their American friends.
"Our common goal to combat terrorism and promote peace goes beyond borders and unites American, Afghan and coalition forces in an unwavering commitment to overcome oppression, fear and intimidation by terrorists all over the globe," the diplomat remarked.
