Senate deputy chairman escapes unhurt in life attempt
CHARIKAR (PAN): The second deputy chairman of the Meshrano-Jirga, or upper house of Parliament, narrowly escaped an attempt on his life in the Qarabagh district of Kabul province, officials said on Sunday.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the vehicle of Rafiullah Afghan in the Karizi area of the district on Saturday night, Col. Abdul Matin, the Qarabagh police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The armored vehicle of the official was slightly damaged in the attack, he said, adding Afghan had escaped unhurt. Law enforcers are investigating the incident.
Afghan visited the district to inspect a mosque construction site and was attacked on his way back to the capital city, he added.
"I was in an armoured vehicle, otherwise who knows what may have happened to me," Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News. The windshield of his vehicle was shattered.
Unknown armed men opened fire at him through a hole in a roadside mud wall, he said, adding his bodyguards caught a suspected man while three assailants fled the area.
