3 killed, 20 injured in Herat accident
HERAT CITY (PAN): At least three passengers were killed and 20 others, including three children, wounded in a traffic accident on the Herat-Islam Qala Highway in the western province on Monday, officials said.
The incident occurred in the Ishaq Suleman village, where two cars collided and a third vehicle flipped over before noon, a hospital official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman for the Herat Regional Hospital, said some of the injured were in critical condition.
Mohiuddin Noori, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the collision and said three passengers were killed and 20 others, including three children, wounded. An investigation team had been sent to the site, he added.
Separately, two people were killed and three others wounded when a warhead exploded in Karukh district. The blast took place in a metalwork shop, as a blacksmith hammered the warhead.
The blacksmith was killed along with another person at the shop and three others were wounded, said Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, Herat police spokesman. The injured were taken to hospital in critical condition.
