Ex-commander among 3 killed in Faryab
MAINANA (PAN): A former commander of the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan, led by Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, and two of his associates were killed during a Taliban attack in northern Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
Azizullah was ambushed late on Monday in the Kansak area while travelling to Qurm Qul district, Brig. Gen. Sayed Ahmad Sama, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Sama said police had launched an investigation into the incident, but no one has been detained so far in connection with the murder.
Resident Nadir said Azizullah had surrendered to the government and had no gunmen anymore. He was a member of the district development council.
As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the assassination, with their spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi saying the ex-commander was killed in the Khan Charbagh area of Andkhoi district.
