10 Taliban join peace process in Uruzgan
TIRINKOT (PAN): A 10-member insurgent group joined the government's reconciliation programme in the central province of Uruzgan on Thursday, an official said.
The fighters joining the peace process would no longer be chased by government forces, Uruzgan Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad promised.
Asking militants to shun the insurgency and live peacefully, Sherzad said he had long been in contact with surrendering group.
"The governor urged us to give up the insurgency and join the peace process," said Jan Mohammad, the commander of the group. He took up the issue with his loyalists, who also accepted his demand.
"I will try to convince other fighters to join the social mainstream," he promised.
