5 rebels killed in air raid, clash
The overnight raid took place after a militant assault on a NATO-led military base in the Manogai district, the ISAF media office in the eastern zone said in a statement.
Major. Sherin Agha, the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesmen, told Pajhwok Afghan News the strike was launched in the Ganda Gul area where no civilian suffered any casualties.
Elsewhere in the country, two insurgents were killed and three others injured during a clash with private security guards escorting an international troop's logistic convoy in southern Zabul province.
The incident occurred late on Wednesday when a group of militants attacked logistic trucks in the Ishafzai Manda area of Shahr-i-Safa town, the district chief said.
Shadi Khan added the dead included Mullah Abdul Bari, a Taliban commander's relative. The guards escaped unharmed in the clash, he added.
