KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan held hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) to a draw in a match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship 2012 qualifiers at the Sabah al Salem Stadium in Kuwait City, an official said on Thursday.
UAE players shot into the lead in the 36th minute of the first half, but Mohammad Amin managed a draw for the visitors by scoring an equaliser in dying moments of the match, Muhammad Yasin Muhammadi, deputy director of the Afghan Football Federation, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
On the basis of the result, Afghans are in third position in Group B, which also included Kuwait, Yemen, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Maldives.
The national team would take on Yemen on Friday night, Muhammadi said, adding football squads from 40 Asian countries -- divided in seven groups -- were participating in the event.
