Samangan accident leaves 2 dead, 3 injured
AIBAK (PAN): Two people were killed and three others wounded in a traffic accident in the Khalam district of northern Samangan province on Friday, an official said.
The casualties happened when a Balkh-bound passenger car skidded off the road at about 10am, the provincial traffic police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Col. Mohammad Ibrahim said the victims, aged between 18 and 25, belonged to Aibak, the provincial capital. The injured were evacuated to the Samangan Civil Hospital.
A doctor at the hospital, Zakaria Mujaddedi, said the wounded were receiving medical care at the surgery unit. One of them is said to be in critical condition.
Three people were killed last week when a speeding car rammed into a tanker truck in the same district. The traffic chief linked increasing accidents to narrow roads and rash driving.
According to information from officials concerned, over the past four months, 38 accidents have occurred on the Samangan-Balkh highway, killing 24 people and injuring 64 others.
