2 men held with 141kg of opium in Qalat

Sep 17, 2011 - 11:56

QALAT (PANinfo-icon): More than 141 kilograms of opium were confiscated in Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul Province, an official said on Saturday.

The opium, placed in a Mazda truck travelling from Ghazni province to Kandahar, was seized after police intercepted the suspected truck in the Qalat City checkpoint on Friday, Col. Ghulam Jailani Farahi, the deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Police searched the truck, loaded with cotton cake, before an observing team, and recovered 141.7kg of opium from it, Farahi said, explaining the traffickers wanted to smuggle the drugs to Kandahar.

He said two men on board were also detained and were under interrogation.
