Former Jawzjan rebels demand jobs
SHIBERGHAN (PAN): A 28-member rebel group, which joined the peace process in northern Jawzjan province, asked on Saturday for employment opportunities, an official said on Saturday.
Led by Mullah Abdul Fatah and Mullah Abdul Hakim, the insurgents, who operated in Darz Aab and Qush Tepa districts, surrendered 20 weapons, the governor said.
Mohammad Alam Sai told Pajhwok Afghan News he hoped the group's surrender would help improve the security situation in the districts.
Mullah Abdul Fatah said: "I have realised the insurgency cannot resolve Afghanistan's problems." He urged the government to provide them employment.
Sai promised the former fighters would be tasked with maintaining security in Darz Aab and Qush Tepa.
