Dissolution of private security firms to be hastened
KABUL (PAN): A special foundation would be set up to speed up dissolution of private security companies and local people would be involved in providing security for reconstruction projects, the Presidential Palace said on Sunday.
At a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), President Hamid Karzai ordered the minister of justice to evolve a framework for the foundation, which would work under the Ministry of Interior, a statement from the Palace said.
The minister was also asked to submit draft regulations to the NSC for jointly setting up the foundation with the Ministry of Finance, the statement said.
In August last year, the president ordered dissolution of all private security firms. According to interior ministry officials, all companies are to be dissolved by March 21, 2012.
The participants, who also discussed the issue of security for major projects, decided that the interior ministry should enroll and train local people to work for the protection of such schemes.
