US drone crashes in South Waziristan
The CIA-operated went down in the Makin area due to a technical fault at around 10am, an intelligence official confided to Pajhwok Afghan News.
Since the Taliban had not have a large presence in the area, the aircraft might have crashed due to a technical fault, local journalist Naseer Azam said.
Mullah Nazir, a local Taliban commander, had claimed responsibility for shooting down a drone in the Angoor Ada area of South Waziristan in September 2008.
The US military has been using the unmanned surveillance aircraft for years to target Waziristan-based insurgents, blamed for incursions into neighbouring Afghanistan.
