3 mine planters detained in Logar
PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Three militants were detained while planting roadside bombs in central Logar province, officials said on Monday.
The rebels were held with an AK-47 assault rifle and a motorcycle on Sunday night in the Dabar area of Charkh district, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Col. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai said detainees had confessed during the preliminary investigation to being assigned by the Taliban with planting bombs.
Rebels were using youth for disruptive activities, said the district chief, Abdul Khalil Kaman. The detainees were the district residents, he added.
"Three masked men were held by police when they were digging the road," said Abid, an area resident.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said he was unaware of the detention of fighters. He said they did not use children and youth for such attacks.
