8 dead in Karachi suicide bombing
A Taliban suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into the house of Crime Investigation Department's counter-terrorism unit head Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam at around 7:30am in the Darukhshan area, killing eight people, including a woman and a child.
Shaukat Ali, the local police chief, told journalists that the woman and her child were on the way to school when the explosion occurred.
Chaudhry Aslam, who survived the bombing, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban had repeatedly threatened him with attacks. "But such assaults cannot deter my commitment to fighting terrorism."
Claimed by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the explosion was so powerful that it shattered windowpanes in houses located a mile from the site. A TTP spokesman told Pakistani media outlets that the target was Aslam, who killed and detained several of our men."
Ehasanullah Ehsan said that the official remained on the Taliban's hit list.
