Taliban's war machine must be destroyed: Noor

Taliban's war machine must be destroyed: Noor

Sep 19, 2011 - 20:45

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PANinfo-icon): Peace in the country would not come through dialogue with the militants, but by destroying Talibaninfo-icon's war machine, the governor of northern Balkh province said on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting organised by Afghanistaninfo-icon's Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), Atta Muhammad Noor opposed spending money on the High Peace Councilinfo-icon.

He saw no point in luring the Taliban to the negotiation table, because the militants -- who believed in fighting, killings and explosions -- sought an Islamic emirate.

The insurgents' war machine must be broken, he reiterated while opposing peace parleys. The governor also blamed Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon, Al Qaeda, the Haqqani Networkinfo-icon, ISIinfo-icon and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan for instability in the country.

AIHRC chief Seema Samar stressed respect for human rights during the reconciliation campaign of the High Peace Council.
