Afghanistan downed by PakistanBy Hadi Kazmi Sep 20, 2011 - 16:00
KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan lost the fourth match to Pakistan by 1-3 in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship 2012 qualifiers at the Sabah al Salem Stadium in Kuwait City, an official said on Tuesday.
Pakistan shot into lead at the begging of the second half with a superb goal, but Mohammad Amin scored the equaliser for Afghanistan, Afghan coach Zahir Hassani told Pajhwok Afghan News from Kuwait City over the telephone.
In the dying moments of the game, Pakistan twice found the nets to defeat the national side by 3-1, he said, blaming Afghans for squandering golden chances due to poor shot selections.
Afghanistan held strong squads, including Kuwait and the Maldives, to draws and beat Yemen two days back, but the loss against Pakistan relegated them to the fifth position in Group B.
The national team will take on the Maldives on Wednesday night, Hassani said. Afghanistan need a big win in their final group match to be able to be one of the top two teams in the group.
