District council member among 3 killed
JALALABAD (PAN): A district development council member has been shot dead in by unidentified gunmen in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred late on Monday in the Ghorabad area of Chaparhar district, Malim Mashuq, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Shafiqullah, also a tribal elder, was shot dead by four motorcyclists, Mashuq said, adding police had launched investigations into the incident. No one has so far been detained in connection with the murder.
Elsewhere in the country, an influential figure was gunned down late in the Zarghun Shahr area of central Logar province, said Col. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai, the provincial police chief.
The victim, Shah Wali, was killed overnight by the fighters loyal to Qari Burhan, a Taliban commander in Mohammad Agha district.
Separately, a Special Police Unit official perished in a roadside bombing in the Ayee Khanam area of Chardara district in northern Kunduz province, said Lt. Col. Ghulam Mohiuddin, the district police chief.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed a local police commander, named Kalim, and two of his bodyguards were killed and three others injured in an overnight blast.
