WASHINGTON (PANinfo-icon): President Hamid Karzai will meet his US counterpart, Barack Obama, in New York later on Tuesday (today) on the sidelines of the 66th UN General Assembly, the White House said.

"This is the first meeting the president will have with Karzai since we rolled out our plan for a transition, so they'll discuss the transition to Afghan security forces and the Afghan government," said Ben Rhodes, the deputy national security advisor for strategic communications.

He told reporters travelling with Obama to New York: "He'll also discuss the negotiations surrounding the strategic partnership declaration between the US and Afghanistaninfo-icon and our alignment on the political process in Afghanistan as we head to some important conferences later this year in Istanbul and Bonn."
