GHAZNI CITY (PAN): A district police chief was killed along with 10 other policemen following an improvised explosives device (IED) attack in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.
The Waghiz district police chief, 2nd Lt. Mohammad Juma, was killed on Tuesday night when police were searching a building near the district headquarters, Col. Zarawar Zahid, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Police launched a search operation on the basis of tip-off that militants were holed up in the building, he said.
As the policemen wanted to enter the building, they briefly clashed with the militants and entered the compound. At same time, militants detonated a remote-controlled bomb planted at the compound, he added.
Hundreds of kilograms of explosives placed in 15 jerry cans were used in the heavy explosion, he concluded.
