Nuristan district retaken, 18 militants killed
JALALABAD (PAN): Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, supported by internal troops, recaptured the Wanth Waigal district of eastern Nuristan province, officials claimed on Wednesday.
ANA commandos, who were air-dropped from helicopters during an operation on Tuesday night, wrested back the district headquarters from the insurgents, Nuristan Governor Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Nearly 2,000 guerrillas had converged on the district in an effort to attack other parts of the province, but Afghan and international troops pushed them back, provincial police chief, Gen. Shamsur Rahman Nuristani said.
A spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Corps in the eastern zone, Noman Hatifi, confirming retaking the district headquarters at 10pm. He said 18 militants were also killed during the clash.
An ammunition cache and some weapons were also seized from the Taliban, said another army officer, Maj. Sherin Agha.
