MEHTARLAM (PAN): A US-funded canal was inaugurated in the Qarghayee district of eastern Laghman province on Wednesday, officials said.

The 16-kilometre canal was fed by Alingar and Alishang Rivers, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Director Matiullah Amanzai said

He added the project costing $ 500000 (24,090,000 afs) was completed in 17 months.

District tribal council head Shahmard Khan expressed satisfaction over developmental projects in the area and said the canal would have a positive impact on farming in Qarghayee.
