MAIDAN-SHAHR (PAN): Thirteen militants were killed and three others detained during a joint operation in the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Sunday.
The two-day offensive, conducted by Afghan and international troops in the Tangi area, left eight militants dead and three others detained, said the governor's spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid.
Elsewhere in the province, five fighters were killed during a clash in the Salar area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway. The gunbattle was triggered by a rebel ambush, the spokesman added.
A rocket, machinegun, a Kalashnikov, walkie-talkies and explosives were seized from the insurgents, according to Shahid.
