District police chief injured in Sar-i-Pul
SAR-I-PUL (PAN): A district police chief and two of his bodyguards were injured in a roadside bombing in northern Sar-i-Pul province, officials said on Sunday.
Sayd Habibullah Sadat, the Gosfandi district police head, was attacked late on Saturday in the Doaba area of Sancharak district, Col. Jahangir Khan, provincial deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The injured were taken to the Sar-i-Pul Civil Hospital, he said, without commenting on their health condition.
"A police vehicle struck a roadside bomb near a bridge," said Mohammad Musa, a residen,t who added three policemen and two civilians on board were injured. However, officials said they were unaware of civilian injuries.
Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying seven policemen, including the district police chief, were killed in the blast.
Elsewhere in the province, four militants joined the peace process and surrendered their weapons to authorities in the Al Mulk village of Sayad district, said Qamaruddin Shekeb, the deputy governor.
