Officials injured in Nangarhar attacks
JALALABAD (PAN): Chiefs of the Khogyani district and Hesarak development council were injured in two separate incidents in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday, officials said.
Haji Mohammad Hasan, the Khogyani administrative head, told Pajhwok Afghan News armed men in Surkhrod district opened fire on his vehicle on the way from Jalalabad to the district centre.
Confirming some minor nose injuries, he said the attackers escaped the scene after his bodyguards, who did not suffer any casualties, returned fire. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Separately, the Hesarak district development council chief was injured in an explosion that occurred in front of a mosque in the Ganjakhel area, Haji Abdul Khaliq, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Dr. Naeem Walar, the district development chief, was in a meeting when the remote-controlled bomb exploded in front of the mosque.
He was evacuated to hospital in stable condition, the official said, adding that parts of the mosque were damaged in the explosion.
